Sarah Palin Former Alaskan Governor & 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate
Few people outside of Alaska knew about Sarah Palin when she was elected the 49th state’s first female governor in 2006. But when John McCain chose her to be his running mate in 2008, Palin vaulted into global fame as the nation’s first female Republican vice-presidential candidate. Her popularity in conservative political circles didn’t wane after the election. When her memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, was published in November 2009, it became an immediate best seller. And her Facebook page has more than 1.1 million followers.
In January 2010, Fox News announced that it had signed a multi-year deal with Palin as a political commentator on its news channel, Fox Web site, radio network and business cable channel. They also said she would host occasional episodes of Fox News’ “Real American Stories,” (debuting in 2010) that features Americans who have overcome adversity.
When asked to submit potential speaker names, Club members overwhelmingly suggested Palin for the 2009-2010 Speaker Series. We are pleased that we can honor our members’ top request as we conclude our 67th season.
