Best-Selling Author & Foreign Affairs Columnist

When it comes to issues that are clouded by political smokescreens or are too complex to fully comprehend, the public turns to Tom Friedman for straight talk and reliable information. In his foreign affairs column for The New York Times, he’s covered many of the monumental events of recent years. His work has won three Pulitzer Prizes, and Vanity Fair named him “the country’s best newspaper columnist.”

Many people know Friedman for his best-selling books. Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution – and How It Can Renew America, continues to stimulate domestic and international dialogue on clean energy and green industries. The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century, Longitudes & Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11 and The Lexus and the Olive Tree have topped book charts. and The Lexus and the Olive Tree have topped book charts. His book From Beirut to Jerusalem is used as a textbook for Middle East courses in our nation’s colleges and universities and was the recipient of the National Book Award.

In addition to his column, Friedman appears on his own segment, “Tom’s Journal,” on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and is a frequent guest on programs such as Face the Nation and Charlie Rose. His TV documentaries, Searching for the Roots of 9/11, The Other Side of Outsourcing and Addicted to Oil have aired on the Discovery Channel.

Friedman rarely gives public talks and we are honored that he accepted our invitation to join us and engage our members in the domestic and global issues he believes can’t be ignored.
