The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The Mendel Center is using the grant to support its presentation of the nationally touring production of Cabaret on May 1, 2018.
The Mendel Center grant was awarded through a peer review process and was one of 575 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2018 funding. Organizations receiving a MCACA grant are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars.
“It is an honor to be selected for funding by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. This support helps The Mendel Center present culturally relevant programming that enriches the lives residents of our community and adds to the vitality of southwestern Michigan. We thank the State of Michigan and our elected government officials for supporting the arts in our great state,” stated Mike Nadolski, executive director of The Mendel Center.
The Mendel Center has a long-standing commitment to making the best in theater and Broadway productions accessible to southwest Michigan through its annual Mainstage performance series. Cabaret has been selected to be part of The Mendel Center Mainstage 2017-2018 season for its classic storyline and award-winning history. The Boulevard Inn & Bistro and WSBT 22 are sponsoring Cabaret and The Mendel Center receives significant volunteer support from the community through its team of more than 100 Mendel Center volunteers.
The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and cultural professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors and residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.
